A Learjet 60 plunged into a Palm Beach County neighborhood moments after an emergency call. Dashcam footage caught the fireball.

Traffic is moving along a wet Florida road. Then a jet drops into view and the street ahead erupts in a fireball. The dashcam catches the impact in seconds. The drivers around it barely have time to react.
All nine people aboard the Learjet 60 were killed in Palm Beach County on November 1. The aircraft, N722BD, had departed Austin, Texas, bound for North Eleuthera in the Bahamas.
The calls before impact
The radio exchange starts with a crew trying to get out of difficult weather. There is talk of icing, turbulence and precipitation, followed by a request to climb. Then the conversation changes. The aircraft is descending rapidly. An emergency is declared. There are calls about overspeed and a descent of 20,000 feet per minute.
The recorded flight-tracking data shows the reported vertical speed eventually exceeding 32,000 feet per minute. That is more than 500 feet a second. The last tracking point was at 8,750 feet. The aircraft had been making a steep, descending right turn.
Listen to the progression in the audio. A request for a different altitude becomes a struggle to stop the descent. The dashcam shows how that flight ended.
Fire beside the traffic
The second clip shows the immediate aftermath from much closer to the wreckage. Fire stretches across the ground beside the roadway. Broken material is scattered near cars, while people stand only a short distance from the flames. A busy street has become a crash scene.
The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause. The central question is how a flight still communicating with controllers went from asking for a climb to falling at that speed. The weather calls, the aircraft's condition and the sequence of events in the cockpit will matter. So will the wreckage left beside that road.
