Who is Brian Shannon?
Brian Shannon is the founder of Alphatrends and author of Technical Analysis Using Multiple Timeframes. His educational work focuses on price structure, swing trading and anchored volume-weighted average price.
How the method works
Start with the intended holding period, then inspect the longer trend before looking for detail on a shorter chart. Different timeframes answer different questions. A small rally can occur inside a larger decline, and a short-term pullback need not end a longer advance.
What makes the approach distinctive
The useful contribution is a consistent sequence of analysis. Context comes before the trigger. That makes it easier to distinguish evidence supporting a plan from a tempting pattern selected because it agrees with an existing opinion.
In the playbook, record the longer chart, the decision chart and the shorter chart separately. Mark what supports the idea, what conflicts and what would invalidate it. Save the chart date so you can later compare the plan with the actual outcome.Trendstockers takeaway, not an investor quotation
Where it can go wrong
Patterns and levels describe market behavior; they do not guarantee continuation. Gaps, illiquidity and abrupt news can defeat an intended exit. Our worksheet is a planning record, not a live signal service or a reproduction of Alphatrends’ paid analysis.
